Abstract
Emotional intelligence is a self skill. Teenagers tend to experience emotional problems such as anxiety, moodiness, impulsiveness and aggression that cause deterioration of emotional intelligence. One way to increase emotional intelligence is to instill assertive behavior. This research is an experimental type which aims to find the effect of assertive behavior treatment in the form of assertive training on increasing emotional intelligence. The sample in this study amounted to 38 students who were divided into experimental and control groups. Grouping using randomization sampling method. The validity of the training instrument used the Content Validity Index which was carried out by three subject matter experts (CVI = 0.93 first treatment and 0.85 second treatment). The emotional intelligence measuring instrument used was only one type that contained 28 questions. Reliability measuring instrument 0.731>0.6 questionnaire declared reliable. The results showed no significant differences in the experimental group either pretest or posttest P > 0.05. The observation states that 17 out of 24 assertive behaviors were successfully applied. The similarity of measuring instruments and dishonesty when charging are factors that do not increase emotional intelligence. Assertive behavior is one form of increasing emotional intelligence if it is always done repeatedly.
