Memory is a very important process in any activity conducted human. In the world of memory education is urgently needed in the learning process. One way to improve short-term memory is with instrumental music. This research aims to know the effectiveness of the instrumental jazz music in improving short-term memory of students. Jazz instrumental music is an instrument Head Over Heels was popularized by Peter White (2014). This instrumental was measured the validity of content by using the Content Validity Index conducted by the three subject matter expert (p = 0,69; > p 0.05). Gauge the short-term memory that is used in the form of 20 items of nonsense syllables containing three letters are not meaningful, this measuring instrument has been measured with Kuder reliabilitasnya Richardson-20 (r = 0,987; close to 1.00). Subjects in this study were 40 students (12-14 years old) were divided into two groups, the experimental group and the control group. Extraneous variable that is controlled is the subject who loves music, room temperature, and the type of music that favored subject. The results showed no significant difference between the groups given instrumental jazz music and without (p > 0.05). Those results may be due to the presence of the chunking and the music used is a subject favored by music, so music became the focus of the subject. Subsequent researchers expected to use more varied types of music, subject, memory tests are more variable and do some research on the subject with different ages.
