PERAN KEMATANGAN EMOSI DAN TIPE KEPRIBADIAN EKSTROVER-INTROVER TERHADAP KECENDERUNGAN AGGRESSIVE DRIVING PADA PENGENDARA MOTOR USIA REMAJA DI SURABAYA
Abstract
The rate of motor vehicle accidents increased in Surabaya nowadays. Nearly 85%
of accidents were caused by driver factors. Teenage drivers often exhibit
aggressive driving behavior. Overtaking behavior, running red lights, and take
the distance is too close to an example of aggressive driving behavior. Emotional
maturity allegedly closely associated with aggressive driving behavior.
Personality type also influences the individual in thinking and acting. The purpose
of this study was to determine the influence of emotional maturity and
extroverted-introverted personality types against aggressive driving tendencies by
teenage drivers in Surabaya. The subjects of this study were 123 teenage drivers
in Surabaya. The method used was a quantitative method by using the Scale
Aggressive Driving, Emotional Maturity Scale and Scale Extrovert-Introvert
Personality Type, which resulted in the value of reliability >0.60. Data collected
were tested using simple and multiple regression testing. The results showed that
only the emotional maturity has an influence on aggressive driving with the value
of R Square was 0.229 and p = 0.000; p <0.005. Extrovert personality type was
not shown in influencing aggressive driving, such things also occured in introvert
personality type. When regressed simultaneously, emotional maturity and
extrovert-introvert personality type shown to have an influence on aggressive
driving. The motor drivers need to control their emotions while driving. The
police can coordinate together with the schools to conduct regular counseling
about the dangers of aggressive driving in order to minimize the accident rate.
