Abstract
Wife who works with a higher salary can be one of the causes of low self-esteem because society puts husband as head of the family responsible for economic needs that often occur in the household conflict that ultimately affect the intimacy of marriage. The purpose of this study is to identify differences of husband’s self-esteem and marriage intimacy based on wife’s salary comparison. Subjects in this study were working husband, age 30-50, age above 10 years of marriage. This research is descriptive quantitative. Retrieval of data using a questionnaire with a self-esteem scale by Branden (2001) and the scale of Marriage Intimacy Scale Modification (MSKP) by Muchlas (1991) , adapted from the PAIR (Personal Assessment of Intimacy in Relationships) compiled by Schaefer and Olson (1997). The results showed no significant difference (t = 0.211 , p> 0.05) between self-esteem husband with wife's salary is higher or lower, and there was no significant difference (t = 1.919 , p> 0.05) between marital intimacy based on wife’s salary comparison. Based on the research results of a husband and wife are expected to establish good communication so as to minimize conflicts occur due to misunderstanding as well as to deepen the intimacy of marriage. Further researches should be set with balanced proportions of participants associated with the identity of research subjects, such as cultural background, educational background.
