Abstract
The exposure of the male body in media can cause him conscious of his body. Therefore male exercise in fitness center in order to get the ideal shape, according to the cultural standards that exist in his environment. The male who exercise in fitness center with motivation of external regulation and introjected regulation maybe caused of the individual experiencing about body dissatisfaction and self objectification. The aim of this study was to determine the correlate between body dissatisfaction, self objectification, and motivation of exercising. This study carried out in the X fitness center Surabaya. Subjects in this study of 100 male who exercise in fitness center at least twice a week and for at least one hour every session. The research instrument used in this study is a questionnaire which was adapted based on the thoery of body dissatisfaction (Tylka et al, inMancuso, 2006), self objectification (McKinley & Hyde, in Sinclair & Myers, 2004), and the exercise motivation (Markland & Tobin, in Vlachopoulos, 2012). This result of this study is a correlate between body dissatisfaction, self objectification, and the type of exercise motivation (external regulation and introjected regulation) with p < 0,05. It shows that self objectification is experienced by male can be reduced by reducing body dissatisfaction experienced.
