dc.description.abstractThis study uses ethnographic design that aims to understand the behavioral patterns of understanding of Javanese culture. This study began from the marriage tradition in Ngoro, the people used petungan to determine matchmaking. Then the rule being contrary to other rules. As happened in the case of Den Ayu, Ngoro denizen. Based petungan, the results of matchmaking Den Ayu and Satria (the groom) is 25. Petungan 25 predicted that the marriage to be doomed with calamity and inauspicious, therefore can not be continued. But people also concerned with the relationship of Den Ayu and Satria because she was pregnant. In the end, Den Ayu decided to married with Sastria but she also did ruwatan a balak cast ritual is a self chastisement ceremony from the sins so that one might be expelled from the anger of Betara Kala (A marauder God). One time, petungan 25 came true. Den Ayu believed that Satria and many of her family died in a sequence caused by petungan 25. She did some coping strategies to reduce feelings of loss and grief. Beside that, Ngoro society found another rule or norms that higher than petungan, it was the formal relationship between man and woman as husband and wife.en_US
