Abstract
The formation of the concepts themselves influenced by other people in the process of social interaction. It does not mean that an assess or evaluation of other people is the only form of self concept. The self concept is composed of three aspects namely, knowledge, judgment and expectations. Given the stereotype of a certain group of people is often done by many people. The problem turned out to be stereotypes is one of the things that are important, even crucial in maintaining the harmony of the life of society. This research aims to know the self concept based on stereotypes on Papua students in Surabaya, especially in Papua that students often get a negative stereotype of one form of assessment negatively to academic ability. The method used was qualitative methods as well as interviews and observations. The subjects in this study were two men and origin tribes of Papua. Data were analyzed by means of organizing data, create categories, determine the themes and patterns, describe, merge and expose data. The validity of the data is supported with the results of the interview for the significant others. Research results show that the concept of equality in the formation of self knowledge and assessment of the quantity and quality of both the subject and the existence of different views of the future based on stereotypes of people of Papua. One subject (George) for example stop fulfilling his goal of a society's stereotypes about Papuans who less able to compete in the world of education. Further research could unearth more about parenting and social interaction of the formation of the concept of culture It self, this is related to the results obtained from this research.
