Abstract
Student assistant plays an important role in supporting learning process. Student and lecturer’s complains towards student assitant performance shows some impact of lack in student assistant competency mapping. This research purpose was to map student assistant competency on course Observation and Interview, Introduction of Psychological Testing, Test Construction, Cognitive Assesment, Personality Assesment. Research design was qualitative descriptive. Reasearch participants were student assistants, lecturers, and management. Data was collected through interviews method and intervention planning evaluation questionairre. Job descriptions show that core competency were communication skills, ability to learn and follow procedures, technical knowledge and skills, decision making and judgement, and detail orientastion. Specific competencies were interpersonal cooperation and participation, planning and organizational skills, and computer literacy. Design of socialization and competencybased recruitment and selection is developed as intervention. Selection method used letter of recommendation, portfolios, structured interviews and observation of interviews. Letter of recommendation was suitable to measure the ability to learn and follow procedures, detail orientation, and technical and knowledge skills. Portfolio was suitable to measure detail orientation and technical knowledge and skills. Structured interview suitabel to measure interpersonal cooperation and participation and decision-making and judgement. Interviews observation was suitable for measuring communication skills.
